Summer is always such a treat here in New England- from the first asparagus to tide-pooling at the ocean. Don’t forget to take some time to relax and knit or crochet after all those hours in the yard or out in the garden…Summer is truly about knitting for ourselves, and we have lots of great sock yarns, cottons and linens, bamboo and lace weight to tempt your fingers during the warmer months. Join us for these fiber-tastic upcoming events: On Saturday, June 12th we are pleased to have Laurie Brown, chairperson of the Circular Sock Machine Society of America, in to demo an antique sock knitting machine from 11am-2pm. Laurie has been knitting for many years and was introduce to circular sock machines 4 years ago. An engineer by trade, she took to them immediately, using and restoring a wide variety of these antique machines. She has taught classes and given one-on-one help, demonstrates sock machine knitting at venues throughout the area, and posted a number of tutorial videos on the internet to glowing reviews. She currently moderates a group on Ravelry.com about sock machines. The CSMSA will be having their 2010 conference in Laconia, NH this summer, July 12-13th. We in NH are very lucky indeed to have the Knitting Guild of America’s annual Knit & Crochet show in Manchester this year! Join us July 9-10th at the Radisson Center of New Hampshire for a weekend of classes, fashion shows, contests, demos, prizes and a fabulous market (at which the Elegant Ewe will be a vendor as usual!). We have a limited number of buy one, admit one free coupons here at the shop so do stop in and grab one if you plan on sharing this great event with a stitching buddy. Another fantastic place to get your fill of fiber is any one of Knitter’s Magazine’s Stitches Knit & Crochet Show. In August, we will look forward to seeing our Chicago friends at Stitches Midwest in Schaumburg, IL, August 19-22th. Then, come on down for Stitches East in Hartford, CT at the Hartford Convention Center, October 28-31st! And don’t miss out on the release of ‘Knitting It Old School’ this coming August…edited by one of our favorite Boston-based knitters, Stitchy McYarnpants. This sure to be a fave book features a knitted skirt design by our very own Kelly Bridges. As the name implies, ‘Knitting It Old School’ is a collection of funky, vintage-inspired knits designed to have you singing Sonny and Cher in no time! Stay tuned to the Ewe for more details.
Finally, we are very excited to host a Hanne Falkenberg trunk show this coming October 1-11th. As you may or may not know, a trunk show is a traveling collection of garments, and these will be beauties! You will be able to try on certain styles and sizes in order to choose just the right kit for you. And Kelly and Marci may just finish their Mermaid kits they both started (ahem) some years ago (Kelly's colorway pictured here).
