Saturday Workshop Series- Tubular Cast On/Bind Off with Kelly

A Tubular Cast On and matching Bind Off can take your knits to the next level! This technique creates edges that are smooth, polished and similar to those of 'ready made' sweaters. With some tips, tricks and practice, they can even be more elastic than a traditional Bind Off. The cast on begins provisionally and uses slipped stitches to create an edge that seems to just roll into itself. The Bind off is accomplished using the same slipped stitch technique followed by grafting stitches together in a pattern much like kitchener stitch. We will also try our hand at the Italian style of tubular cast on and discuss how to work a 'faux' tubular bind off for pieces with lots and lots of stitches.

There is no kit included with this workshop. Students should bring a small amount (about 50 yds each) of light colored, smooth worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors, size US#7 knitting needles (straight or two double pointed), a tapestry needle and a size H or I crochet hook. Students must be familiar with knitting basics. Being familiar with making a crochet chain is a plus but not necessary!
