Knit a Heart Sachet with Pat Watson

Modular knitting is a fun and interesting technique- Each piece is built upon the previous with carefully placed pick-ups and cast-ons resulting in a piece with marvelous texture and color interest.

Learn to knit this adorable heart made of 14 mitered squares in the modular technique. You can use any gauge you wish to make tiny hearts or chubby hearts. Fill them with poly-fill or lavender or any other stuffing you desire. They make great gifts!! Use as sachets for drawers and closets. Lavender is a natural moth repellent, so protect your other handknits with this lovely heart.

Students must be familiar with knitting basics, including decreasing and picking up stitches.

Materials to bring to class: 200 yards of fingering yarn for small hearts. US#3 double pointed needles. 10-12 small plastic "safety pins" or the like to hold no more than 2 stitches. Tapestry needle. Note: You may bring a heavier gauge yarn if desired, please also bring the appropriate needle size to suit. Class includes a digital copy of Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts 2006.
